A 72' gaff rigged schooner, Windjammer is designed along the lines of the trading and fishing schooners that worked the Grand Banks in the North Atlantic and plied the east coats of America for 200 years.
These classic schooners, handled by small crews, formed the hub of the trading industry and the basis for a thousand books written on small sailing ships.
Launched in 1994, she is considered to be one of the most beautiful yachts ever to be built in Australia. Windjammer epitomizes the grandest of schooner qualities, sailing at speeds of 10 knots or more on the beam and broad reaches.
With her 2000 ft of sail area and raked masts she is certainly a spectacular sight. Whilst built in the best traditions of her class offering sailing as it was in yesteryear, that is where Windjammers resemblance to her predecessors ends. Below decks she is luxuriously appointed displaying a timeless elegance. New Guinea rosewood adorns the interior with fittings reminiscent of a bygone era. Windjammer is a classic example of elegant lines and fine craftsmanship.
There are comfortable lounge and dining areas below and a choice of accommodation in stateroom, twin cabins or 3-share cabin. The large alfresco dining and lounging area on deck is perfect for those long relaxed lunches , dinner under the stars, or just curling up with your favourite book.
With the services of 3 crew and a maximum of 9 guests, this cruise offers friendly peronalised service, with an emphasis on good food and relaxation. A flexible itinerary however, allows you to set your own pace.
Snorkel amongst the tropical reef fish, hike a national park trail, stroll one of the many secluded beaches or just relax on board and enjoy the Whitsunday panorama.
Windjammer is fully crewed with a captain, cook/hostess and deckhand, however guests are encouraged to take the wheel, tend the sheets, or for the more adventurous, climb the ratlines and fine tune the canvas 70 feet above the deck.
